STAMFORD — The Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is investigating a motor vehicle crash involving a scooter that left a man seriously injured Thursday night.
The collision occurred in the 100 block of Hope Street at approximately 10:59 p.m.
A 2011 BMW, driven by a 17-year-old Stamford resident, was traveling northbound when it struck a stand-up scooter also heading northbound.
The 46-year-old scooter operator was thrown onto the roadway, and the scooter was heavily damaged, breaking into multiple pieces.
The injured man, a Stamford resident, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Stamford Hospital by EMS.
He was still being treated in the emergency department as of Friday but was expected to be admitted.
Police confirmed he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The BMW driver initially left the scene but later parked nearby and returned to speak with officers.
No charges have been filed, and the investigation remains open.
