Rome man charged in Utica child sexual abuse case

UTICA — A Rome man was arrested May 29 on charges stemming from the sexual abuse of a child in the city of Utica.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Child Advocacy Center received a report of child sexual abuse on May 29, according to Chief Deputy Derrick O’Meara, director of the center.

Investigator Alicia Marconi was assigned to lead the investigation.

Authorities determined that Keshawn Ware, 26, subjected a female child under the age of 11 to sexual contact between September 2021 and June 2022.

Ware was located in the city of Rome and arrested May 29 by Investigator Marconi and Investigator Mark Chrysler.

He was charged with one count of criminal sexual act in the first degree, a class B felony.

Ware was processed at the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building and arraigned at Centralized Arraignment Court.

He was remanded to the Oneida County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail.

An order of protection was issued for the victim, who has been offered services through the Child Advocacy Center.

Oneida County Child Protective Services and the Rome Police Department assisted in the investigation.
