NORTHAMPTON — A Florence man pleaded guilty to multiple hunting violations after illegally killing a deer in a protected sanctuary last year.
The Massachusetts Environmental Police observed suspicious activity involving artificial light at Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary on the night of Nov. 30, 2024.
A traffic stop and investigation revealed a white-tailed deer had been unlawfully taken with a crossbow on the sanctuary grounds.
The 38-year-old suspect admitted to the violations, including hunting during closed season, unlawful killing of deer, and hunting with artificial light.
He was fined $850, ordered to pay $500 in restitution, and received a one-year hunting license suspension.
The man was also placed on probation for one year and forfeited the crossbow used in the incident.
