NEW HARTFORD — Two 12-year-old boys were arrested and charged Monday after allegedly attempting to break into St. Thomas Church on Clinton Road, New Hartford police said.
Police responded at about 4:00 p.m. May 26 after a neighbor reported hearing glass breaking at the church and confronted three individuals suspected of trying to enter the building.
The witness provided descriptions to arriving officers, who quickly located the juveniles in the area.
At the church, officers found a broken window and an open door.
A police investigator and juvenile officer also responded to assist in the investigation.
Both juveniles were charged with one count each of criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor, and attempted burglary in the third degree, a felony.
They were issued appearance tickets to report to the Oneida County Probation Department.
Police did not release the names or photos of the juveniles, citing their ages.
