Kingston: Woman arrested after stabbing at Wenton Motel, state police say

KINGSTON — The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Kingston announced the arrest of Shannon N. Marshall, 38, of Saugerties, following a stabbing incident in the town of Saugerties on May 27.

According to investigators, Marshall faces charges of second-degree assault, a class D felony; two counts of second-degree menacing, class A misdemeanors; and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor.

Authorities said that HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston treated a 37-year-old woman for multiple stab wounds at approximately 5:48 a.m. on May 27.

Hospital staff immediately notified the City of Kingston Police Department.

City police determined the assault occurred within the jurisdiction of the town of Saugerties, prompting the case to be transferred to the Town of Saugerties Police Department and then to New York State Police.

The investigation revealed that the victim answered a knock at the door of her Wenton Motel room on Route 9W in Saugerties at around 4:45 a.m.

Marshall was at the door, and a verbal dispute escalated to a physical altercation during which the victim sustained multiple stab wounds.

Marshall was located and taken into custody shortly after the incident, then processed at State Police Kingston without incident.

She was arraigned in Saugerties Town Court Centralized Arraignment Part and remanded to the Ulster County Jail with bail set at $20,000 cash, $50,000 bond, or $100,000 partially secured bond.

Marshall is scheduled to return to Saugerties Town Court on May 30 at 2:00 p.m.

The New York State Police were assisted by the Town of Saugerties Police Department and the City of Kingston Police Department.
