BRUNSWICK — State Police have arrested Daniel F. Sunkes, 58, of Cohoes, on charges including rape in the first degree, grand larceny in the fourth degree, and unlawful imprisonment in the second degree.

Troopers responded to a report of a past sexual assault at about 10:00 p.m. May 25.

The investigation determined that earlier in the day, Sunkes allegedly held the victim, who is known to him, against their will in Brunswick and forced them into unwanted sexual acts under the threat of physical harm.

After the incident, Sunkes reportedly extorted the victim, forcing them to withdraw money from an ATM and give it to him.

The victim was able to flee and later contacted State Police.

Sunkes was located and arrested at his home in Cohoes on May 27, then transported to SP Brunswick for processing.

He was arraigned at the Brunswick Town Court and remanded to the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility without bail.
