Worcester man arrested in connection with shots fired incident at park

WORCESTER — A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shots fired incident at University Park last month.

Lugardo Flores of Worcester faces multiple charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon (two counts), armed assault to murder, firearm use in a felony, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, and firearm discharge within 500 feet of a dwelling.

The incident occurred on May 27 at approximately 8:09 p.m. after police received multiple calls reporting gunshots near the intersection of Illinois Street and Gates Street.

Witnesses reported hearing between 10 and 12 gunshots.

Officers located several shell casings at the scene.

A 21-year-old victim later arrived at a local hospital with a non-life-threatening graze wound to the head.

Two vehicles were also struck by gunfire.

The investigation remains ongoing.
