Motorcyclist dies after crash on New York Thruway near New Paltz

NEW PALTZ — State police Highland troopers responded to reports of a motorcycle crash on the New York State Thruway near exit 18 at approximately 7:43 a.m. on May 27.

A preliminary investigation found that a 2009 Harley-Davidson was traveling northbound on Interstate 87 when its rear tire blew out.

The motorcycle turned sideways and rolled in the left lane before coming to a stop.

The rider, Martin T. Muller, 62, of Mahopac, was ejected and landed about 80 feet south of the motorcycle.

New Paltz Rescue EMS performed life-saving measures at the scene.

Muller was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The investigation remains ongoing.
