CORTLANDVILLE — A Town of Cuyler man was arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly stealing more than $1,000 worth of merchandise from the Walmart on Bennie Road in Cortlandville.
Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a larceny complaint at the store at approximately 10:51 a.m.
According to the sheriff’s office, Jason W. Scutt Sr., 53, was identified as the suspect in the theft.
Further investigation revealed that he was also in possession of a controlled substance at the time of his arrest.
Scutt was charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, a felony, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor.
He was transported to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office for processing.
Scutt was arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Process at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and was released on his own recognizance.
He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Cortlandville Court on June 9 at 11:00 a.m.
