COLONIE — A 22-year-old Albany resident, Omar R. Toney, was arrested early Thursday, May 29, after Colonie police responded to a report of a suspect attempting to enter a locked vehicle on Sand Creek Road.
Police said a resident contacted authorities at approximately 3:19 a.m., providing a detailed description and surveillance images of the suspect.
Officers quickly established a perimeter, deployed patrols, and launched drones to locate the individual.
Toney was found and taken into custody shortly after the initial report.
According to police, he was in possession of a duffel bag containing property later identified as stolen from unlocked vehicles belonging to multiple residents in neighborhoods along Sand Creek Road.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing to determine if Toney is connected to other recent larcenies from vehicles in the area.
Toney faces two felony counts of criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, two misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, and one misdemeanor count of attempted petit larceny.
He was arraigned before Colonie Town Justice Andrew Sommers and released under the supervision of probation.
