WATERBURY — Waterbury police responded to reports of gunfire at the Brass Mill Center Mall, 495 Union Street, at approximately 4:43 p.m. Tuesday.
Upon arrival, officers found five adults with gunshot wounds.
The victims, four females and one male, are between 20 and 26 years old.
Three victims were treated and released from the hospital.
Two remain in stable condition and are still receiving care.
According to a preliminary investigation, the shooting was not random and was the result of a dispute among individuals who knew each other.
Police identified Tajuan Washington, 19, of Waterbury, as the suspect.
Washington turned himself in to police late Tuesday evening.
He has been charged with risk of injury to a child, criminal use of a weapon, five counts of assault in the first degree, illegal discharge of a firearm, reckless endangerment in the first degree, carrying a pistol without a permit, and illegal possession of weapons in a motor vehicle.
Washington was held on a $2,000,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned today.
The Brass Mill Center was searched and cleared by Waterbury police in coordination with Connecticut State Police.
