SPRINGFIELD — Officers seized a loaded large-capacity firearm, heroin and crack-cocaine while arresting a suspect following a gun call Tuesday morning.
The Springfield Police Department responded to the 100 block of Oak Grove Avenue around 11:05 a.m. after receiving reports of a gun.
Officers located a suspect matching the description in Hennessy Park.
As officers approached, the suspect, later identified as 48-year-old Gregory Rodriguez Jr., fled while holding an item in his waistband.
Officers saw him discard an object over a fence, where they later recovered a firearm.
Rodriguez Jr. was arrested on the 0-100 block of Kenyon Street.
The firearm was loaded with a 12-round magazine.
Police also found approximately 110 bags of heroin and 17 packaged rocks of crack-cocaine.
Rodriguez Jr. faces multiple charges, including carrying a loaded large-capacity firearm on a public way, firearm and drug violations, and possession with intent to distribute.
