Somers fire department responds to vehicle fire and woods rescue

SOMERS — The Somers Volunteer Fire Department responded to 15 calls for service on Tuesday, including a motor vehicle fire and a rescue in the woods.

At 4:48 a.m., crews were dispatched to Route 100 for a reported garbage truck fire.

The driver had offloaded most of the contents before firefighters arrived.

Units extinguished the fire inside the truck and the materials on the ground.

Operations lasted about two hours.

At 6:42 p.m., crews responded to a dirt bike accident on the trails behind Lincoln Hall.

A UTV was used to reach the patient about a mile into the woods.

The department was on scene for approximately an hour.

State Police and Somers Police assisted in both incidents.
