Lewiston police respond to armed standoff, arrest suspect after shots fired

LEWISTON — Police responded to a report of shots fired at approximately 9:40 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Horton Street and Walnut Street.

Officers arriving on scene located a man later identified as 35-year-old Troy Blanchard.

Police say Blanchard had entered an unoccupied vehicle and was armed.

The surrounding area was secured and negotiators began de-escalation procedures.

After a lengthy standoff, officers used non-lethal force to remove Blanchard from the vehicle and take him into custody safely.

No injuries were reported.

Blanchard faces charges including reckless conduct with a firearm, creating a police standoff, unlawful possession of a scheduled drug, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
