CLARK MILLS — A Clark Mills woman was arrested Wednesday, May 28, following an animal cruelty investigation, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Robert M. Maciol said the Kirkland Police Department referred the case to the sheriff’s office on May 27 after a pitbull named Rhett was found alone at 44 Pratt Ave. in the Town of Kirkland on May 16.

Rhett was severely emaciated, weak, and unable to stand on his own.

He was taken to a local veterinarian, where he remains under care.

The Oneida County Criminal Investigative Unit was assigned to the case due to the severity of the complaint.

Investigators determined Lindsay Meelan, 36, of Clark Mills, was responsible for Rhett’s condition.

She was located in Utica and taken into custody without incident.

Meelan was processed at the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building and charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals, misdemeanor torture/injure/not feed animals, and a violation of dog control procedures.

She was released with appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in Kirkland Town Court on June 17 at 5:30 p.m.
