BRUNSWICK — A Troy, New York, man was arrested Friday on charges related to child sexual exploitation.
John A. Cleary, 55, was taken into custody by State Police in Brunswick with assistance from the Troop G Computer Crimes Unit, the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Cleary faces charges of promoting a sexual performance by a child, a class “D” felony, and possessing a sexual performance by a child, a class “E” felony.
Authorities allege Cleary promoted and possessed images consistent with child sexual exploitation.
The arrest followed an investigation and the execution of a search warrant at his Troy residence on Friday.
The case originated from a cyber tip provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Cleary was transported to SP Brunswick for processing.
He was arraigned in Troy City Court and remanded to the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility on $7,500 cash bail.
