BOSTON — A Boston man was arrested Tuesday following a violent altercation with police that resulted in an officer-involved shooting.
The Boston Police Department said 46-year-old Elvis Haughton was taken into custody after an incident near 265 Cambridge Street.
At approximately 8:43 a.m., officers working a paid construction detail were approached by Haughton, who assaulted one of them near 275 Cambridge Street.
A physical struggle ensued, leading a second officer to intervene.
During the altercation, an officer’s firearm was discharged, striking Haughton.
Bystanders helped officers subdue Haughton, who was then taken into custody.
He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Haughton is expected to face charges including assault and battery on a police officer, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a Class C substance and resisting arrest.
His arraignment is scheduled in Boston Municipal Court.
