ST. JOHNSBURY — A 42-year-old man was arrested after allegedly assaulting a family member and leaving with one of two children present in the home, according to Vermont State Police.

Robert Cennami of St. Johnsbury was taken into custody without incident around 2 a.m. Monday after police investigated a report of a family fight on Laurel Drive.

The incident occurred Sunday around 12:24 a.m. when Cennami allegedly engaged in a physical altercation with a family member while two young children were in the residence.

Police said Cennami left the residence with one of the children following the altercation.

The child was uninjured and returned to their mother after Cennami’s arrest.

After consulting with the Caledonia County State’s Attorney’s Office, authorities charged Cennami with two counts of first-degree aggravated domestic assault, kidnapping, cruelty to a child, interference with access to emergency services, and reckless endangerment.

Cennami was processed at the St. Johnsbury Barracks and is being held without bail at the Northeast Regional Correctional Complex.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. in Caledonia County Superior Court’s Criminal Division.
