PITTSFIELD — The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a fatal fire that claimed the life of a resident Sunday afternoon.
The Pittsfield Police and Fire Departments responded to a reported structure fire at 111 Cardinal Street at approximately 3:56 p.m. on May 25.
After suppressing the blaze, fire crews discovered a deceased individual inside the residence.
The Office of State Fire Marshal was called to the scene, following standard protocol for fatal fires.
The deceased was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy will be performed to determine positive identification.
Investigators have tentatively identified the victim as 58-year-old Gili Brown, who lived at the residence.
Fire Marshal investigators determined the origin and cause of the fire to be an overloaded power strip.
