Fair Haven teen arrested after prom night confrontation

FAIR HAVEN — A local teen was arrested following an investigation into a threatening complaint that occurred on prom night.

Adam J. Washburn, 18, of Fair Haven, was arrested on May 20 by Fair Haven Police and charged with first-degree aggravated domestic assault, criminal threatening, reckless endangerment, and gross negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

The incident began on May 17 at 7 p.m. when police were notified of a confrontation on Main Road in West Haven.

A student reported to police that Washburn had threatened to harm them via social media messaging.

The student told officers that while driving to the prom, they observed Washburn in front of them on Main Road and pulled over to allow him to pass.

According to police, Washburn then allegedly passed the student before stopping his vehicle in the roadway, blocking the student’s car.

Washburn reportedly confronted the student in the middle of the road before returning to his vehicle and speeding away.

Following the investigation by Patrolman Mark Gutel and Chief William Humphries, Washburn was arrested and lodged at the Marble Valley Correctional Center.
