EAST HAVEN — A New Haven man faces multiple charges after a passenger was ejected from his moving vehicle during a crash on Bradley Street Monday afternoon.

East Haven police responded to the 400 block of Bradley Street at approximately 3:08 p.m. following reports of a one-car accident with an ejected passenger.

Officers arrived to find a male victim lying in the roadway receiving emergency medical treatment from East Haven Fire Department personnel.

A black 2013 Cadillac CTS with front-end damage and a flat tire was stopped nearby.

The driver, identified as Alexander Duarte, 22, of Brewery Square in New Haven, showed signs of impairment and failed field sobriety tests at the scene, according to police.

Investigators determined the front seat passenger had been partially seated outside the vehicle window before being ejected as Duarte traveled northwest on Bradley Street.

Duarte told officers he lost control of his vehicle, struck a curb and blew a tire just before the passenger was ejected.

The victim, whose identity is being withheld, was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital with serious injuries and was last listed in stable but critical condition.

The South-Central Connecticut Traffic Unit assisted with accident reconstruction due to the severity of the crash.

Duarte was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and failure to drive in the proper lane.

He is being held on $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court on June 4.

Police say additional charges may be forthcoming pending the results of the full accident reconstruction investigation.
