Body of missing UNH student found in Newington

DURHAM — The body of a University of New Hampshire student missing since November has been recovered from Little Bay in Newington, police announced Tuesday.

Alexis Garcia, who had been missing since Nov. 21, 2024, was found by a citizen near the shoreline on Friday, May 23, at approximately 3:29 p.m., according to the Durham Police Department.

The body was positively identified by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on May 25 following an autopsy.

Deputy Chief David Holmstock said in a statement that based on the department’s investigation, there is no suspicion of foul play related to the case.

The investigation has been closed, according to police.

Garcia had been missing from the Town of Durham for more than six months before the discovery.
