WORCESTER — A police lieutenant monitoring video surveillance in the Main South area observed a man carrying what appeared to be a sawed-off shotgun on May 23 at about 9 p.m., leading to two arrests.
The lieutenant, assigned to the Neighborhood Response Team, saw a man later identified as Martineau Lucien, 32, of Hammond St, who appeared animated and was yelling at another group near Main and King St.
Officers approached the scene after being alerted by the lieutenant, prompting another male to immediately flee.
Police pursued the fleeing suspect, who threw an object into a King St residence driveway during the chase.
Officers detained the man, identified as Devonte James, 24, of Claremont St, and recovered the discarded item, which was a sock containing twenty-six bags of what appeared to be crack cocaine.
James was arrested and charged with Possession of a Class B Substance with Intent to Distribute.
While officers were with James, Lucien approached the scene and was recognized by the lieutenant as the individual who had been carrying the sawed-off shotgun.
Police detained Lucien and located the sawed-off shotgun behind a Main St address.
Lucien, who did not possess a license to carry firearms, was arrested and charged with multiple weapons violations including Possession of a Sawed Off Shotgun, Carrying a Loaded Firearm in Public without a License, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card, and Carrying a Shotgun on a Public Way.
