Tractor crash in Hartland sends teen to hospital

HARTLAND — A 19-year-old Braintree man was injured when his tractor veered off US Route 5 and down a steep embankment Monday afternoon.

Joseph Ferris was operating a John Deere Feed Chopper Tractor eastbound on US Route 5 near Legion Drive when he lost control while navigating a curve at approximately 2:59 p.m.

The tractor plunged down an embankment and came to rest near Luls Brook.

Ferris, who was wearing a seat belt, sustained moderate to serious injuries in the crash.

Emergency responders from Hartland and Windsor Fire & EMS, along with Hartford Fire’s Rope team, rendered aid at the scene.

Troopers from the Vermont State Police Royalton Barracks responded to the crash and conducted an investigation.

The injured teen was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment.

The tractor sustained substantial damage and was considered totaled.

The crash scene remained secured due to downed power lines, with Green Mountain Power and Hartland Fire personnel remaining on site.
