Missing Newton teen found safe after two-day search

NEWTON — A teenage boy reported missing from Newton has been located and is safe, according to police.

Joel Ivan Castillo Suriel, who had been missing since Saturday evening, was found Tuesday, the Newton Police Department announced at 2:45 p.m.

“This juvenile has been located and is safe. Thank you for the community concern and assistance,” police said in a statement.

Authorities clarified that at no time was the teen in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody.

Suriel had last been seen on Los Angeles Street in Newton at approximately 7 p.m. on May 24.

Police had described him as a white male, 5’11” with a thin build, last seen wearing gray Nike sweatpants and a thin black zip-hoodie sweatshirt.

No additional details about where he was found or the circumstances of his disappearance were immediately released.
