FAIR HAVEN — A local man wanted on multiple warrants in Vermont and New York was arrested Monday after fleeing police and assaulting an officer.

David Alan Brown, 47, of Fair Haven, was taken into custody after police located him on South Main Street at 12:45 p.m. on May 26.

When officers attempted to arrest Brown, he fled on a bicycle down Lee Avenue before abandoning it and running into a wooded area near railroad tracks, according to police.

Officers found Brown hiding in a garage on Prospect Street, where he initially resisted arrest.

While being placed in a patrol car, Brown kneed an officer in the groin and caused a minor finger injury to the officer, police said.

Brown was wanted on three Vermont warrants issued by Judge Cortland Corsones of the Rutland District Court, including one for attempted aggravated assault on a police officer from November 12, 2024.

The other Vermont warrants stemmed from failures to appear in court for driving with a suspended license charges in July 2023 and April 2023.

Brown was also wanted as a fugitive from justice in New York after failing to appear for sentencing in Warren County Court on March 27, 2024, for felony criminal possession of a controlled substance.

He faces new charges including assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and additional counts of driving with a suspended license.

Brown was lodged at the Marble Valley Correctional Center with bail set at $5,000 for one of the charges.
