BROOKFIELD — A suspicious package containing an unknown substance brought to the Brookfield Police Department Friday afternoon was determined to be non-hazardous after testing.
The incident began around 2:15 p.m. when an individual delivered the package to the police station out of concern, according to a statement from the Brookfield Police Department.
Multiple agencies responded to assist, including Brookfield Fire/EMS, the Danbury Fire Department, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, and the Connecticut State Police.
Officials tested the substance and confirmed it posed no hazard to the public.
Police said there was no indication of malicious intent or criminal activity associated with the incident.
Authorities reminded residents not to handle, move or transport suspicious items, but instead to leave them in place and call 911.
