Man arrested for shoplifting $600 in meat, seafood from Southbury grocery store

SOUTHBURY — Police arrested a Waterbury man Friday afternoon after he allegedly stole more than $600 worth of meat and seafood from a local supermarket.

Matthew Kimbrough, 61, was apprehended at 1:53 p.m. on May 23 as he attempted to flee the Shop Rite Supermarket at 775 Main Street South, according to Southbury Police.

Officers responded to the store at approximately 1:47 p.m. following reports of an active larceny in progress.

Police said Kimbrough was a passenger in a vehicle trying to leave the area when officers arrived at the scene.

Following a brief investigation, Kimbrough was charged with fifth-degree larceny under Connecticut statute 53a-125a.

Authorities recovered all stolen items, which included various meat and seafood products valued at over $600.

Kimbrough was released after posting a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Waterbury Superior Court on June 3 at 9 a.m.
