CORNISH — Maine State Police arrested a West Baldwin man in connection with an armed robbery at a local market where approximately $2,100 was stolen.
James Palmer, 42, was apprehended on May 22 as he was leaving a hotel in Scarborough, according to state police.
The robbery occurred on May 6 at approximately 8 p.m. at the Cornish Market and Variety located at 124 Main St.
During the incident, a male suspect entered the store, assaulted the clerk, displayed a firearm and forced her to open the safe before fleeing on foot toward Cumberland Street with the cash.
Palmer was identified as the robbery suspect following an investigation by the Maine State Police Southern Field Troop.
Multiple search warrants were executed, resulting in the seizure of several firearms and items allegedly used in the commission of the crime.
An arrest warrant for Palmer was granted on May 20 for the offenses of Robbery with a Firearm Class A, Theft by Unauthorized Taking or Transfer Class C, and Violating Conditions of Release Class E.
Authorities report Palmer is currently on multiple sets of bail conditions and has three prior felony convictions for robbery.
The arrest was a joint effort between State Police, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, and police departments from Scarborough, South Portland and Portland.
Palmer was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Cumberland County Jail where he is being held on $10,000 cash bail.
