NASSAU COUNTY — A Brooklyn man faces multiple charges after a crash on the Southern State Parkway that damaged a state police vehicle and two other cars early Friday morning.

New York State Troopers responded to a one-car accident involving a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee on the Southern State Parkway, just east of the Belt Parkway, at approximately 3:30 a.m. on May 23.

The Jeep could not be moved from the right lane, requiring troopers to position their marked patrol vehicle behind it with emergency lights activated.

Troopers had placed flares around the scene for safety when a 2024 black BMW 530 struck an uninvolved 2023 Toyota Camry.

The collision caused the Camry to hit the trooper’s vehicle, resulting in significant damage, before the BMW also struck the disabled Jeep.

After the crash, the BMW driver attempted to walk away from the scene but was intercepted by troopers who determined he showed signs of intoxication.

The driver initially provided a false identity but was later identified as Messiah Robinson, 23, of Brooklyn, who has an active bench warrant issued by the NYPD for menacing a police officer.

Robinson refused a breath test and standardized field sobriety tests.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, second-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree criminal impersonation, and numerous vehicle and traffic law violations.

Robinson is scheduled to appear at Nassau First District Court on June 13.
