Troy police arrest suspect in teen shooting case

TROY — Troy police have arrested a 28-year-old Schenectady man in connection with the shooting of a teenager earlier this month.

On Sunday, May 4, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Troy Police Patrol units responded to Glen Avenue following a report of a shooting.

Officers discovered a 16-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was treated for his injuries and later released from the hospital.

On May 22, Troy Police Detectives, supported by the Troy PD Emergency Response Team and the Schenectady PD Special Operations Squad, conducted two simultaneous search warrants in Schenectady.

These operations led to the apprehension of Ramon S. Cruz, 28, of Schenectady, and the recovery of three firearms and multiple high-capacity magazines.

Cruz has been charged with Attempted Murder 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of Weapon 2nd Degree, and Assault 1st Degree.

The defendant has been arraigned in Troy City Court and remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail.

Since May of 2023, the City of Troy has been a partner in New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services’ Non-Fatal Shooting Initiative, which provides grant funding for dedicated teams working to solve non-fatal shooting cases.

Funding is provided to the City of Troy through New York State’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination initiative.
