BOSTON — The Boston Police Department issued a community alert Tuesday warning residents about an individual fraudulently identifying as a detective.
Police urged the public to remain vigilant about the impersonator who may be contacting individuals under false pretenses.
Authorities believe the fraudulent contacts could be part of a scam or other criminal activity.
The department asked anyone who has been victimized by this type of crime to report the incident to Boston police.
Officials reminded residents to call 9-1-1 if they witness criminal activity taking place or need police assistance.
