5 arrested in Rhode Island on financial, drug charges

PROVIDENCE — Rhode Island State Police arrested multiple individuals on May 22 on charges ranging from financial crimes to drug possession.

Members of the Financial Crimes Unit arrested Lisa Scorpio Vecchio, 44, of Cranston, for five counts each of obtaining property by false pretenses and exploitation of an elder.

Vecchio was processed at State Police Headquarters, arraigned in Sixth Division District Court and released on $2,000 surety bail.

The HIDTA Task Force arrested Celso Herrera, 39, of Providence, for possession with intent to deliver cocaine (1oz-1kg), possession with intent to deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, and on a bench warrant for failure to appear for arraignment.

Herrera was processed at Lincoln Woods Barracks and held at the ACI Intake Center pending arraignment.

Members of the ACI Investigations Unit arrested Jodecilynn Costa, 29, of Providence, as a fugitive from justice from Massachusetts.

Costa was arraigned in Third Division District Court and remanded to custody pending return to Massachusetts.

The same unit arrested Ahesha Taylor, 42, of Providence, for possession of a controlled substance and conveyance of unauthorized articles to and from an institution.

Taylor was presented as a Superior Court violator and remanded to custody.

The Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Raul Afonso, 59, of Woonsocket, on an arrest warrant from Central Falls Police for second-degree child molestation, electronically disseminating indecent material to a minor, simple assault, and disorderly conduct.
