SHREWSBURY — A Worcester man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly breaking into a home in the Edgemere section of Shrewsbury and fleeing from police.
Officers responded to Robertson Drive at 1:38 p.m. following reports of a man attempting to break into a home, according to the Shrewsbury Police Department.
Witnesses told police the suspect had fled on foot.
Officers discovered one home had been broken into and a second home showed signs of an attempted forced entry.
Thirteen Shrewsbury Police Officers and several Massachusetts State Police Troopers established a perimeter and searched the area, with assistance from a State Police K-9 unit and the Shrewsbury Police Drone Unit.
At approximately 2:12 p.m., Lt. Perna spotted the suspect wading through the water along the shore of Lake Quinsigamond behind a home on Lakeside Drive.
The suspect, identified as Joseph Walker, 34, of Worcester, was ordered to the ground at gunpoint when he stepped onto a dock and was taken into custody without incident.
Officers found several items on Walker that were later determined to be stolen from the victim’s home, along with a black ski mask.
Detective Vieira later located a backpack belonging to the suspect containing additional items related to the break-in.
Walker faces multiple charges including breaking and entering daytime, larceny from a building, receiving stolen property under $1,200, possession of burglarious instruments, conspiracy, attempt to commit a crime, malicious destruction of property, disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct.
