ELMIRA — The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office has identified human skeletal remains found by hunters in 2022 as those of Randy S. Seck, who was 30 years old at the time of his death.
The remains were discovered on Nov. 8, 2022, in a wooded area off Bowlby Road in the Town of Elmira, prompting an investigation by the sheriff’s office.
Investigators worked with the FBI and Othram, a forensic genealogical testing company, to identify the remains through testing and genealogical tracing.
Seck, who was born in 1992, had no identification information with him when his remains were found.
The circumstances surrounding Seck’s presence in the wooded area and the cause of his death remain under investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who had contact with Seck in 2022 or has information relevant to the investigation to contact the Criminal Investigation Division at 607-737-2933.
