Cortland man charged with felony DWI after fleeing disturbance

CORTLANDVILLE — A Cortland man faces felony charges after allegedly driving while intoxicated following a disturbance at a local gas station.

James M. Knight, 39, of Harrison Street, was arrested at 12:29 p.m. May 20 after fleeing from Kwik-Fill on Homer Avenue in Cortland.

Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist Cortland City Police with a disturbance at the gas station at approximately 12:01 p.m.

Knight had left the scene in a motor vehicle before officers arrived, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities located Knight and determined he was operating the vehicle while intoxicated.

Investigators discovered Knight’s driving privileges were currently revoked.

Knight was charged with felony driving while intoxicated, felony aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree, unlicensed operator and refusal of breath screening test.

He was transported to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office for processing.

Knight was arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Process at 8 p.m. and remanded to the Cortland County Jail without bail.

His next court appearance is scheduled in the Town of Cortlandville Court on May 28 at 11:30 a.m.
