CORTLAND — A Cortland man was arrested on felony burglary charges after allegedly stealing merchandise from a local Walmart on two separate occasions.

Nicholas Partis, 38, was arrested May 18 by New York State Police for burglary in the third degree, a class D felony.

Troopers were first dispatched to the Cortlandville Walmart on May 11 at 2:30 p.m. for a report of a male who left the store with a cart of unpaid merchandise valued at over $868.

The suspect was identified as Partis, who had previously been banned from entering Walmart earlier this year due to prior theft incidents.

The following day, May 12, troopers responded to the same Walmart after Partis allegedly took another cart of items worth more than $678 without paying.

Authorities were initially unable to locate Partis and applied for an arrest warrant.

On May 18, Partis was apprehended by another police agency and later transferred to state troopers at Homer to face the warrant.

After processing, Partis was turned over to the Cortland County Jail for centralized arraignment.
