MONTPELIER — A 35-year-old Montpelier man was arrested Tuesday evening on multiple sexual assault charges following a police investigation.

Ryan Berte faces charges of sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, and violation of conditions of release, according to the Montpelier Police Department.

The investigation began around 11:28 a.m. Tuesday when police received a third-party report of a possible sexual assault.

Officers obtained information that led to a search warrant for a Montpelier residence, which was approved by a Superior Court judge.

Several items of evidentiary value were seized during the search, police said.

After conducting multiple interviews, detectives developed probable cause to arrest Berte.

A judge ordered Berte held without bail pending arraignment.

He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.

The Montpelier Police Department continues to investigate the case.
