ILION — The Village of Ilion Police Department is investigating a possible kidnapping after receiving reports of a person screaming for help from a speeding vehicle early Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred between 12:30 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. on May 21, according to a statement from Police Chief Laurie Ann DeVaul.
Security camera footage provided by a Highland Avenue resident captured video and audio of an unidentified vehicle speeding eastbound on Highland Avenue before turning right onto Park Street, heading southbound.
Police said the person inside the vehicle could be heard screaming for help and that they had been kidnapped throughout the vehicle’s journey along Highland Avenue and Park Street.
A second witness in the Morgan Street area also reported hearing someone screaming for help around the same time.
Investigators believe the vehicle may have been operating on Arlington Avenue or in the area of Hoefler Avenue and Remington Avenue before reaching Highland Avenue.
Police are uncertain whether the vehicle entered Russell Park or turned left onto Beech Street after traveling on Park Street.
The Ilion Police Department is asking village residents to check their outdoor security cameras for any suspicious footage captured between 12:30 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. that might be related to the incident.
Residents with information are urged to contact the Village of Ilion Police Department at 315-894-9911.
