Fairfax man reports stolen firearm, Sheldon resident arrested

FAIRFAX — Vermont State Police arrested a Sheldon man Tuesday morning after he allegedly stole a firearm from a Fairfax residence.

Troopers from the St. Albans Barracks responded to a report at approximately 7:48 a.m. from Trevor Campbell, 61, of Fairfax, who stated that Jayson Leclair, 32, of Sheldon had stolen a firearm from his residence.

Leclair, who is prohibited from possessing firearms, also had an active arrest warrant for violation of probation.

Troopers located Leclair at a residence in Sheldon and took him into custody on the outstanding warrant.

Leclair was transported to Northwest State Correctional Facility where he is being held on $1,000 bail.

He was issued a citation to appear in Franklin County Criminal Court on May 21 at 1 p.m. for the warrant-related charge.

Leclair received an additional citation ordering him to appear in Franklin County Criminal Court on June 24 at 8:30 a.m. for charges of petit larceny and persons prohibited from possessing firearms.

The stolen firearm was recovered and returned to Campbell.
