BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Youth Violence Strike Force arrested a 19-year-old man and recovered a loaded firearm during a patrol in Nubian Square on Wednesday.

The arrest occurred around 11:48 a.m. as officers conducted a directed patrol aimed at reducing gun violence in the area.

Police said they observed a group of teenagers gathered on the front steps of brownstone buildings on Mt. Pleasant Street when they recognized Jabrell Reynolds, 19, of Roslindale.

According to officers, Reynolds quickly walked up the stairs and out of view when he noticed police approaching.

Officers found Reynolds “backed into a corner at the top of the stoop, sweating and appearing visibly nervous,” while several individuals were smoking marijuana on the steps.

Police discovered a .380 Glock 42 semi-automatic pistol in the corner of the staircase near where Reynolds had been standing.

The recovered weapon contained three live rounds in its six-round magazine and an additional round in the chamber, with its serial number obliterated, according to police.

Reynolds faces charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, and carrying a loaded firearm.

He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
