Two arrested in Chemung County on harassment charges

SOUTHPORT — Two individuals were arrested on May 19 for separate harassment incidents in Chemung County, according to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.

Brian E. Smith Jr., 35, of Southport, was charged with second-degree harassment following an incident in the Town of Southport.

Smith was issued an appearance ticket to appear in Southport Town Court at a later date.

In a separate case, Shelby A. Bentley, 31, of Corning, was arrested for second-degree criminal trespass, second-degree aggravated harassment, and second-degree harassment.

Bentley’s charges stem from a disturbance that occurred in the Town of Horseheads on May 12.

She was arraigned in Horseheads Town Court where an order of protection was issued before she was released.

Second-degree harassment is classified as a violation, while second-degree criminal trespass and second-degree aggravated harassment are both Class A misdemeanors.
