MERIDEN — Members of the Meriden Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit (CSU) arrested a local resident following a two-month narcotics trafficking investigation that yielded nearly 1 kilogram of cocaine and a stolen firearm.
The investigation, conducted throughout April and May, identified Meriden resident Kemar Smith as a suspect involved in distributing illegal narcotics within the city.
Detectives secured a search warrant for Smith’s vehicle and residence based on evidence gathered during the investigation.
Officers seized approximately 997 grams of cocaine, 51 grams of crack cocaine, and 3 grams of fentanyl during the search.
Police also recovered a stolen HK 9mm firearm and $64,208 in U.S. currency believed to be drug proceeds.
Smith faces multiple charges including operating a drug factory, possession of a controlled substance, risk of injury to a child, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of narcotics with intent to sell.
He is being held on a $1,000,000 bond pending arraignment in court.
