MANCHESTER — A Manchester man was arrested Monday afternoon, less than four hours after allegedly committing an armed robbery and later stabbing another person.

Michael Kustra, 34, faces multiple charges including armed robbery and first-degree assault following the incidents that occurred near downtown Manchester.

Police responded to a reported armed robbery near 181 Merrimack Street at approximately 12:45 p.m. on May 19.

The victim told officers he had been talking to an unknown man and woman when the woman allegedly took his money and pointed a firearm at him, while the man threatened him with a knife.

About an hour later, at 1:45 p.m., officers received a call about a stabbing near the Families in Transition Shelter at 199 Manchester Street.

This victim, who was receiving treatment at the Manchester Fire Department, reported being stabbed while attempting to break up a fight between two men.

During the investigation, officers determined that one of the men involved in the fight matched the description of the male suspect from the earlier robbery.

At approximately 4:40 p.m., two Community Affairs officers working a quality of life and park enforcement detail spotted Kustra sleeping in the grass near 199 Manchester Street and took him into custody without incident.

Kustra was charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault, falsifying physical evidence, and criminal threatening with a deadly weapon.

He is scheduled to be arraigned May 20 in Manchester Circuit Court.

Police are still working to identify and locate the female suspect involved in the robbery.
