JOHNSTOWN — Three police officers rushed into a burning apartment building Sunday morning to evacuate residents trapped inside.

The Johnstown Police Department was dispatched to Trackside Homes at approximately 7:25 a.m. May 18 for a reported structure fire.

Officers could see heavy smoke while en route to the scene and confirmed an active fire with visible flames upon arrival.

Bystanders informed police that multiple people might still be inside the building.

Sergeant Michael Pedrick, Officer Jake Arrunategui and Officer Jason Roth immediately entered the burning structure without hesitation.

The officers evacuated numerous residents from both the first and second floors while battling smoke conditions.

In some instances, the officers had to breach doorways to reach residents and help them escape.
