CORTLAND — A 29-year-old Cortland woman faces felony and misdemeanor charges after allegedly assaulting another woman and then attempting to bribe her to drop the charges.
Cassandra Morgan was arrested on May 19 following an investigation into an assault that occurred on April 28, according to the Cortland Police Department.
Police responded to a report of an assault in front of 172 Clinton Ave. at approximately 6:30 p.m. on April 28, where they found an injured woman.
The victim told officers that Morgan had approached her while she was on a break at work and struck her in the face, resulting in head and facial injuries.
During the investigation, Morgan admitted to initiating the altercation and confirmed she had punched the victim during a confrontation related to a past personal dispute.
Police said the victim later reported that Morgan contacted her after the assault and offered her money to not press charges.
Morgan was charged with bribing a witness, a class D felony, and assault in the third degree, a class A misdemeanor.
She was arraigned and released with a scheduled court appearance for a later date.
