COLCHESTER — A Colchester resident has been arrested on multiple felony charges following a sealed indictment related to the theft of logs from several properties, Delaware County Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced Friday.
James Amato, 50, was taken into custody by Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies on the morning of May 9 after a grand jury handed down a sealed indictment warrant the previous afternoon.
Amato was arraigned in Delaware County Court where the indictment was unsealed.
Authorities allege that in April 2021, Amato removed logs from multiple properties in the Town of Hamden, selling them for profit and causing damage to trees and property.
The defendant faces three counts of third-degree grand larceny, a Class D felony; three counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, a Class E felony; and six counts of second-degree criminal mischief, a Class D felony.
Following court proceedings, Amato was released on his own recognizance and ordered to return to court at a later date.
