BOLIVAR — A Bolivar woman faces multiple felony charges including attempted murder after allegedly stealing a vehicle and stabbing two state troopers who approached her at a gas station.

Julia C. Groff, 31, was arrested May 17 by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation on two counts of attempted murder in the first degree, two counts of aggravated assault upon a police officer, and numerous other charges.

Troopers from SP Amity responded to Crosby’s Gas Station in the village of Bolivar at approximately 3:25 p.m. following a report of a stolen vehicle.

The troopers located the stolen 2000 black Chevy Silverado at a gas pump and approached the operator, identified as Groff.

According to authorities, Groff violently resisted arrest and stabbed Trooper Jacob Klock, a 9-year veteran, just above the eye and Trooper Michael Rich, an 11-year veteran, in the head.

Trooper Rich discharged his issued firearm in response to the assault but did not strike Groff.

Groff was taken into custody with minor injuries, while both troopers are being treated at Strong Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

Groff was arraigned and remanded to the Allegany County Jail without bail.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 21 at the Town of Bolivar Court.
