Impaired driver arrested after driving through swamp in Hartland

HARTLAND — A driver was arrested for impaired driving after being found navigating through a swampy area along Route 12, according to the Windsor County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputy Jalava discovered the impaired driver Monday while on patrol in Hartland.

The vehicle, which had veered off the roadway into swampland, was later removed with assistance from TwinLine Towing, Recovery & Auto Repair.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 42,514 people died in traffic crashes in 2022 in the United States, the latest figures available.

An estimated 13,524 of those fatalities occurred in drunk driving crashes involving a driver with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or greater.
