BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department recovered a firearm and arrested a 21-year-old man following a ShotSpotter activation in Roxbury early Sunday morning.

At about 12:06 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, officers assigned to District B-2 responded to the area of 31 Adams Street after receiving a ShotSpotter alert.

While responding to the call, officers observed a vehicle idling at the intersection of Adams Street and Dubois Street with no rear lights illuminated but front lights on.

When officers attempted to turn their cruiser around, they observed the vehicle flee at a high rate of speed towards Orchard Park Street.

The vehicle was seen traveling the wrong way down a one-way street before quickly turning into a parking lot behind 25 Ambrose Street, where it parked diagonally across two spots.

Officers activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.

As officers approached, both occupants immediately exited the vehicle and attempted to close the doors.

Officers stopped both individuals before they could close the doors and escorted them to the rear of the vehicle.

A firearm was immediately observed on the floorboard of the driver’s side, and both suspects were safely placed in handcuffs.

Detectives responded to process evidence, identifying the weapon as a Taurus G3C with one round in the chamber and nine rounds in the magazine, equipped with a laser sight attachment.

Officers also recovered ballistic evidence from behind 31 Adams Street, the original location of the ShotSpotter activation.

Mehki Young, 21, of Boston, was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and possession of ammunition without an FID Card.
